Redefining Peace

The flip-flopper mantle has been bestowed upon Kerry early on in this election cycle, but as I and many others have pointed out in the past: Bush is the true flip-flopper. Now there is even more evidence of this (my apologies to those who have already seen this strung across numerous blogs -- I do have a new point connected to this, so please bear with me):

"I'm a war president."
- George W. Bush, Meet the Press, Feb. 13, 2004

"Nobody wants to be the war president. I want to be the peace president."
- George W. Bush, Campaign Speech, July 20, 2004

First off, I won't take the easy way out and point to these two quotes as clear evidence of uber flip-floppage, primarily because saying one is a war president does not necessarily mean the person wished to be one to begin with (which may be debatable in this case, but I digress.) I will, however, point to this article at the Sunday Herald that reports on one of those nifty "anonomyous government officials" claiming that plans are well on the way for major intervention in Iran if Bush is re-elected:

PRESIDENT George Bush has promised that if re-elected in November he will make regime change in Iran his new target.

Bush named Iran as part of the Axis of Evil along with North Korea and Iraq almost three years ago. A US government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that military action would not be overt in changing Iran, but rather that the US would work to stir revolts in the country and hope to topple the current conservative religious leadership.

The official said: "If George Bush is re-elected there will be much more intervention in the internal affairs of Iran."

Well, unless Bush considers widespread regime change through covert action (which, considering it's been announced it's actually a little more overt than anything) "peaceful," then in his feeble mind he may well be a peace president. Regardless, it seems to be amateur hour over at Bush HQ considering the administration  has unleashed two completely contradictory messages on the public at the exact same time, further rendering null any claims made about Kerry's past contradictions.

    Wisdom from Wisdom Teeth:
I have impacted wisdom teeth. I know they could become a dental problem, but until they begin to cause me discomfort (the sign that they are actually beginning to become said problem) I will leave them alone. There's still a 1% chance they'll stay still forever. But until they become an actual problem, I won't go making them one. So should our foreign policy be.
